Should we arrive at the beginning of the event?
Blandford Enchanted has a rolling schedule, and everything the event has to offer will be available for the entire duration of the day. The event will not open early. Saturday’s Lantern Walk is also open-ended. Guests can arrive anytime between 7-10pm and have a lovely time. You don’t need to feel pressure to be the first to arrive.

Is this event taking place outside? What if it rains?
The majority of Blandford Enchanted will take place inside the new Mary Jane Dockeray Visitor Center at the Blandford Nature Center. It’s a beautiful new facility with restrooms, parking, and live animal enclosures. The Visitor Center is where you’ll see the dozens of intricate fairy houses, do crafts with the kids, and listen to performers from the Grand Rapids Symphony. Other components of the event, like the Fairy Boutique (selling all sorts of goodies!), are also located indoors, but in a nearby building.

Saturday’s Lantern Walk will take place outside, rain or shine! Come dressed for a walk in the woods. The path is well-established, but attendees are tasked with bringing the right outerwear and footwear. Check the weather here.

What is the Lantern Walk on Saturday night?
Saturday night will culminate in a magical twilight lantern walk through the forest, complete with live musicians to enhance the journey. Children and adults alike will delight as they meander down the designated path to spot dozens of fairy houses tucked among the trees, the woods lit with thousands and sparkly lights. All children will receive a special battery-powered mason jar lantern that they will get to keep! Parents, no need to fret. The path is relatively short, clearly marked, and June’s twilight sun will still be lingering in the sky. Dress to be outside. The Lantern Walk has an open format. Guests can arrive anytime between 7-10pm and have a lovely time. You don’t need to feel pressure to be the first to arrive.

Who is organizing this event?
Blandford Enchanted is a volunteer-run fundraiser created by the Grand Rapids Symphony Friends (formerly known as the Grand Rapids Symphony Women’s Committee) to benefit the orchestra’s many education programs. Proceeds from ticket sales go directly to bringing classical music to thousands of children who might otherwise not have access.

Can I bring my pet to this event?
Yes and no. Visitors can bring their four-legged friends to the Blandford Nature Center. However, Blandford policy requires that your dog is on a leash, stays on the trails, and that there is a doggy waste bag in hand to pick up unwanted extras. Dogs are allowed everywhere except on our Wildlife trail and inside buildings. Please note that the majority of Blandford Enchanted will be inside, where pets are not allowed. Service animals are always welcome.

Is the event ADA accessible?
Yes and no. The majority of Blandford Enchanted will take place inside the new Mary Jane Dockeray Visitor Center. The building is fully ADA compliant and features several permitted disabled parking spots. A portion of the event will take place in the historic buildings and woods surrounding the Visitor Center. Access to these facilities involves wood chip paths that necessitate the use of special mobility tires.
